Greetings PRHDR Community! Sending warm wishes for a happy new year!
Here at PRHDR, we're feeling energized as we enter the new year. Although we continue operating under pandemic conditions, providing optimal care to our patients in rural Santiago and Puerto Plata provinces remains our primary mission.
Due to ongoing, strict regualtions in the Dominican Republic and travel restrictions amongst our partner universities in the United States, PRHDR remains unable to send its usual team of providers, students, and volunteers for our annual trips.
To ensure care is still received, we mobilized a small, local medical and support team on the ground to deliver care. Our focus was mainly on serving individuals with chronic conditions, ensuring a 6-month supply of medications. We also worked with local pharmacies to supply patients with those medications. In total, we were able to serve about 300 individuals in 16 communities!
Not knowing what a post-pandemic society may look like, or when it may occur, we will continue our mission by providing bi-annual support to our patients on the ground through local assistance until the pandemic begins to subside.
We remain incredibly thankful for your support thus far and humbly ask you to continue contributing to our project as we hopefully begin transitioning out of COVID regulations. Our project continues to supply necessary chronic disease medications and equipment and we hope to be seeing our patients face-to-face again soon! We are so thankful to have our local, international, and GlobalGiving community with us!
Abrazos (hugs),
The PRHDR Team
