Greetings PRHDR Community!
As vaccines are distributed and warmer weather hits the Northern Hemisphere, COVID regulations may be beginning to relax in our communities. As relieving as a lot of these changes may feel, PRHDR continues to operate under pandemic conditions and provide care to our patients in rural Santiago and Puerto Plata provinces.
Due to ongoing, strict regualtions in the Dominican Republic and travel restrictions amongst our partner universities in the United States, PRHDR was unable to send its usual team of providers, students, and volunteers for the annual winter trip.
Our team on the ground has continued to provide tireless care to our patients throughout this past winter. We were able to see 332 patients in 17 communities. Our resident doctor and community health workers were able to distribute necessary prescribed chronic medications, surgical masks, as well as glucometers and glucometer strips to patients as appropriate.
We continue to hope that we will be able to send more providers and students into the field as soon as possible. In the meantime, we are continuing to provide bi-annual support to our patients on the ground. We are so incredibly thankful for your support thus far and humbly ask you to continue contributing to our project as we hopefully begin to transition out of COVID regulations. Our project continues to supply necessary chronic disease medications and equipment and we hope to be seeing our patients face-to-face again soon! We are so thankful to have our local, international, and GlobalGiving community with us!
