What would your life be like if you did not have regular access to healthcare? How would you feel if you did not have access to healthcare during COVID-19? For residents in the mountains of Puerto Plata and Santiago Provinces, this is a consistent reality. Our project will deliver access to necessary medication for over 1,000 patients in 19 rural, underserved communities in the Dominican Republic.
Rural Dominican Republic is home to 2 million residents with limited access to healthcare services. Twice a year our volunteer health professionals and nursing students bring healthcare services to over 1,000 residents in 19 villages hosting free mobile clinics. This is the only form of healthcare many patients receive. COVID-19 has unexpectedly impacted our ability to bring healthcare to our patients. They are now at risk of not receiving the basic medication and supplies they need to survive.
Your support will provide over 1,000 women, children, and men with the medication and supplies necessary to meet their basic healthcare needs and manage their chronic illnesses. Supplies will include necessary medical equipment, any available personal protective equipment (PPE) and education to community members and leaders about COVID-19 through our Promotora community health worker training program.
With your support, our patients will be able to maintain their long-term health and quality of life throughout this pandemic. Efforts will support a flattened curve for COVID-19 transmission, and help us establish a permanent presence in the heart of the communities we serve. Help us increase and sustain access to healthcare and autonomy in these local villages.
