Christiana's Cancer Journey and Appeal

By Anthonia Uche Umeh | Project Leader

Christiana Cancer Journey
Christiana Cancer Journey

Christiana, 64 year-old female is currently being managed for advanced right breast cancer by her Consultant Family Physician & Hospitals Administrator Anambra State with Consultant Oncologist, UNTH Enugu. Christiana is from Umuawa village in Ifite-Ogwari town, Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria.

Our Anambra North Zonal Coordinator, Assumpta, reached out to ASA Women USA Executives about a Charismatic Renewal Movement member, Christiana who was undergoing cancer treatment but couldn't pay for the treatment. She was known for helping to keep the church premises clean every morning

According to Christiana, it was around July, 2022 that she complained of persistent malaria which was followed up with medication. It was in the midst of this uncertainty, that one morning as she was having her bath she felt lumps within the armpit. With this discovery, she went back to the medical doctor that treated her of malaria earlier, who in turn sent her to another medical doctor for clinical investigations. This led to her lumpectomy surgery for the removal of the lumps and laboratory investigation of the lumps. At the end, breast cancer was confirmed and the first medical doctor that handled her case, referred her to a consultant oncologist at Enugu who is currently handling her case. She had her first chemotherapy in January, 2023 but she couldn't continue due to lack of fund. She went back on May 5th and 6th, 2023 and received another course of chemotherapy due to the benevolent act of the members of Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement of St Thomas Aquinas Parish, GRA Agu-Awka, Christiana is due for another course of chemotherapy on May 26th, 2023. According to her, she has resolved not to continue with the chemotherapy because she has nobody in mind who will come to her aid financially. Christiana is expected to complete 6 courses of Chemotherapy, Mastectomy, and Radiotherapy with an outstanding bill of over 2Million Naira ($3,000)

ASA Women USA and her Global Partners will be stepping up to render some support towards Christiana’s continued treatment, and we would love to do more. Christiana has expressed her appreciation and impact of these extraordinary support by ASA Women USA Cancer Coalition Team.
