Kids for Kids is proud to announce that, despite ongoing violence in Darfur, we are delivering famine relief for starving children living in remote villages, out of sight of the world.
The situation in Darfur remains dire, with ongoing conflict, displacement, and now heavy rains. Families living in remote villages in Darfur are subsistence farmers, living off whatever they can grow from the land. Crops have not been planted due to the violence and now flooding is exacerbating the already precarious conditions faced by millions of families. With banks closed across the country and out of control inflation - some items increasing by 300% - people are struggling to survive. The UN World Food Programme (WFP) announced famine in Darfur this week.
Families have been living off assida (a carbohydrate) with many children surviving on one meagre meal and their parents often eating just one meal every 2 to 3 days. This cannot continue. We were desperate to help and now we have found ways to do so, thanks to wonderful volunteers in Darfur.
With your support, sacks of Sorghum and Millet, staple grains essential for the survival of our families facing food security and famine, and Kitchen Kits including lentils, ground nuts and cooking oil, are being delivered to six of our villages - Azagarfa, Abu Diegeis, Um Ajaja, Lawabid, Um Hagalig and Tartoura Berkat - in the North Darfur region to provide immediate relief so mothers can feed their starving children. This will provide emergency food now but also seeds which must urgently be planted if families are to have the chance of a crop for next year.
This emergency food will be life-changing for families in six of our villages. But there are 110 Kids for Kids' villages. We must reach more families as soon as we can.
