It has been a busy few months at the House of Joy. The new ladies that joined the program in the new year are doing well with their studies and have settled into life in the house.
Nisa is 19 years old, and a victim of human trafficking. She arrived with her baby daughter unexpectedly, when the government closed the emergency safe-house where she was staying and she had nowhere to go. Despite their unplanned arrival, Nisa and her daughter are thriving in the program. Nisa says that the program is giving her opportunities to catch up on school and learn new skills. She is particularly enjoying learning to make clothes, and hopes to have her own business working as a tailor one day.
Valbona is an orphan whose wider family beat her and never cared for her. She arrived in January with her young son, and she didn't know how to sign her name on our forms, or how to care for her son. Now she is learning to read and write with such enthusiasm that our literacy teacher says that Valbona is the best student she has ever had! Unfortunately, she recently broke her ankle and is recovering now. When Valbona was in the hospital she asked if she could continue her reading and writing lessons from her hospital bed. She showed her homework to the doctors and nurses with pride!
Lina and her four children have been part of the program in the House of Joy for over two years, and in the autumn, they were ready to move into their own apartment nearby while continuing with the program. Lina can't read and write very well and has only a little experience of work, coming from a very violent marriage. She never thought that she would be able to get a job because she thought nobody would hire someone like her - an illiterate single mum. However, recently Lina found a job cleaning the best hotel in town, and is doing so well that her bosses are very pleased with her. Her kids are so proud of their working mum!
Thank you so much for all your support of the House of Joy!
