Dear Community,
We are excited to report that, because of your generosity, we've been hard at work preparing for our upcoming workshop on trauma healing for survivors of sexual abuse. Curriculum calls, packing lists, and handbooks, oh my!
Meanwhile, we received an inspiring update from our local project partner in Uganda - Edja Foundation - a program of Nyaka AIDS Orphan Project - who works tirelessly to combat sexual abuse in the community:
Two years ago, a five-year old was raped by her grandfather. As a result, she was infected with HIV. Because of Edja’s education program, the little girl was sponsored to get an education, so she can have a better future. And, thanks to Edja’s legal advocacy work, the perpetrator was recently sentenced to 32 years in prison. This is the first time any girl in this district has been told that she is believed, and that she deserves to be safe and protected.
Thanks to your activism, we’ll be joining with inspiring leaders from this little girl’s community in Uganda - including school teachers, social workers, policemen, lawyers, and religious leaders - to address individual and community trauma, explore ways to break cycles of violence and harm, and plant seeds to create legacies of healing - for this little girl and for her community.
Thank you for standing with girls - and for letting them know that they matter.
Stay tuned for more updates following our workshop next month...
From our hearts to yours,
