Our team in Uganda has offered workshops to folks in two subcounties in Rukiga district. Their efforts reached over 485 people, including religious leaders, local leaders, teachers, health workers, financial leaders, and more!
A mother that attended one of the workshops was able to mend her relationship with her daughter by sharing from her heart about her experiences and practicing the peer listening skills she learned with us to hold space for her daughter. The child who had been refusing to go to school due to her struggles saw herself being seen and heard by her mother and was thus able to return to school knowing she had a support system to hold her through the challenges of everyday life.
This work comes at a time where the impacts of climate change have led to loss of income, housing, and peace of mind for many people in this community. A participant whose village has been ravaged by heavy rains shared about how when she lost everything, she found herself feeling alone in a community where her family and neighbors were all struggling to survive in the same circumstances as her. Through the workshops with Healing Together she practiced the skills she needed to connect with her family and neighbors to hold each other through the challenges they faced as a community.
Every day, participants choose to stand by one another to build strength and unity by saying yes to joining our Healing Together family and becoming Healing Advocates. Participants speak about the challenges they face every day, but more importantly, they share their joy as they learn that Healing is possible and that they have the skills and wisdom they need to hold each other with tenderness and care. Morning workshops have started with song and dance as participants embrace the joy of possibility together.
