This project will provide employment and vocational training in artisan crafts for 10 women in northern Uganda, where poverty is extreme and opportunities are few. By creating opportunities to earn supplemental income for their families, the women are then able to pay children's school fees, provide adequate nutrition, and keep their families together. The ripple effects of providing training for women are endless and positively impact future generations.
Northern Uganda is an area of extreme poverty. The lasting effects of civil war, along with minimal government aid, have created an environment where employment opportunities are nearly nonexistent. Lack of income affects entire families, impacting nutrition, educational opportunities, and family stability.
By providing training in vocational skills, women are able to create marketable goods and services within their community, When given an opportunity to earn supplemental income in this way, we have found these extra funds are spent to benefit the family. School fees are paid, nutrition improves, families remain together, and the occurrence of early marriage is reduced. Families thrive.
With 85% of Uganda's population under 15 years of age, the ripple effects of services provided to women by The Ribe Project, affect not only the women in the program but also the next generation of Ugandans by impacting the educational opportunities and support provided for their children.
