We will pilot to 5 progressive women farmers in Mahayag village the growing of various food, vegetables, trees and root crops for improved income and well-being. We aim to improve the social, economic and food security situation of poor, marginalized farmers and their families in the village by providing training, farming inputs, field technical support and market intelligence so that their farming venture is improved and be a pilot for other farmers in their village.
Women farmers is struggling to grow food, improve their incomes and well-being with the main reason being the lack of focused technical and material resources they can have access to. The lack of local champions and success stories of women farmers breaking the barrier of unproductivity and poverty also limits success and improvement. The result is lethargy and powerlessness and the never-ending cycle of poverty.
We will focus our effort to 5 progressive women farmers. They will lead in promoting farming improvement with our technical and resource assistance that will be on-going for at least 1 year or until they are able to stand on their own with little help from us and others. The 5 women will become beacons of success in the village and source of technical and resource inputs for other women farmers to emulate. In this way we are able to cascade success to others.
Women farmers are unable to improve their situation because of the lack of focused assistance on technical and farming inputs. Technical assistance is very much needed given the complexity of the problem faced by marginal farmers. We hope to build vibrant, economically-sustaining communities able to expand their gains and include their neighbors in the process.
