The Girl Child Art Foundation (GCAF) is a non-profit organization that aims to educate and inspire young girls from underserved communities in Africa through Arts, fostering cultural exploration and community building, nurturing creativity and instilling confidence through its exceptional programs. Our focus areas are visual and performing arts, creative writing, and digital arts, providing a safe space for individuals to explore their artistic talents.

One of our core missions is to provide a supportive environment that supports underserved young women and adolescents, breaking all barriers to their rights and education. By addressing these challenges, the GCAF Centre plays a vital role in fostering confidence, honing skills, promoting design thinking, and cultivating an appreciation for giving back to the community. By investing in the artistic development of Nigerian youth, we empower them to find their unique voices and express themselves through the arts.

Visual Art is one of our many educative programs involving artistic activities, which provides the girls a platform to find reasonable expression. The visual art class is a four-day activity from November 6 to November 10, 2023. The course comprises 15 adolescent girls from underserved community in Lagos, Nigeria. As a class filled with creativity and enthusiasm, the girls found it easy to and eager to dive into the world of Art. The course spans 2 hours, thirty (30) minutes daily, sharpening their drawing skills and exploring sketching various objects and animals.

This week's artistic focal point was Bead painting on a board, an endeavour that kicked off with just two girls at the beginning of the first day. Under the guidance of their dedicated Instructor, Mr Temitope, the girls started sketching a fish, the chosen subject for their bead-infused masterpiece.

The initial day was marked by the girls translating their piscine visions onto cardboard. On the second day, they were equipped with the materials needed to complete their task. The girls were given Top-bond glue, white cardboard, coloured beads, and a board as their canvas.

To showcase the depths of their creative ability, the girls blended various colors of beads, carefully selecting shades of orange, green, white, cream, and blue. Guided by their Instructor, they created a hue of colours, each bead enhancing the intricate beauty of the fish drawing and painting.

The Girl Child Art Foundation Centre is more than just a space for artistic expression. It is a beacon for confidence-building, skill refinement, and design thinking and a platform for instilling a sense of community service. We take immense pride in witnessing the positive transformations in these girls as they embrace this unique mode of expression and nurture their strengths.

We express our most profound appreciation for your generous financial contributions to our organization. Your kindness and support have been instrumental in the success of our various initiatives, enabling us to navigate each endeavour with remarkable smoothness.

Your donations have not only facilitated the seamless execution of our projects but have also been crucial in compensating our dedicated team members and instructors and giving voice to our girls; recognizing and valuing their essential contributions is made possible through your ongoing support.

Your steadfast commitment to our cause is commendable. It directly contributes to our positive impact on the girls and the communities we serve, empowering us to persist in our efforts and allowing us to continue making a meaningful difference in the communities and beyond.
