Greater Food Security for women farmers in India

Despite the global economic crisis and the extreme heatwaves throughout India, we can report that another 232 poor farmers across 3 states in India have started using Climate-Smart Greenhouses during the 1^st half of 2022. Many of these are women like these 2 outstanding young farmers, benefitting directly from your generous support:

Swaroopa, a progressive young farmer from the state of Telangana had struggled to sustain her farm and feed her family for many years. In 2021, inspired by other women farmers in her village, she started using the climate-smart greenhouse. With on-the-ground education, training and support, Swaroopa successfully harvested a record-breaking 4 tons of European cucumbers in her first season! This has netted her an income of $160 per month (after costs)!! Swaroopa is a more confident, sustainable farmer as a result and is able to feed her family at all times.

Nirmala Devi, from the poorer state of Jharkhand, owns less than a hectare of land. She has also been a progressive farmer from a very young age and was also inspired to start using her climate-smart greenhouse in Sept' 2021. Having successfully harvested high-quality French Beans during freezing temperatures outside, Nirmala has earnt a net income of $390 within 3 months – an increase of 100% in her household’s income!!
