As if the Covid-19 wasn’t enough, weeks ago, hurricane ETA and IOTA strongly hit the most vulnerable areas of San Pedro Sula, one of these, the community where our families live, near the municipal trash dump.
Families are trying to survive, with less than what they had before the hurricanes, they have had to double their work shifts, collect more material in the garbage dump, in order to have the same income that they earned before the pandemic and now both hurricanes.
Doña Isolina, lost her house, the water covered up the roof, without giving her the opportunity to take out any of her few belongings.Doña Digna who just had a baby and went recently through surgery had to run out with her nine daughters before the land and rocks that slid from the hill collapsed into her house, leaving her with nowhere to go.
They are only two of several of our families who, although their houses were made of plastic and cardboard they called it "home"; now they have nothing.
"That's life, those who have the least are those who lose the most." Doña Jenny said while water covered a large part of her house. However, Abigail cooks outdoors for her eight sisters, thanking God for the food.
One of them could be one of us, but why not? God allows you and me to be on the other side to reach out to those who are suffering now.
They deserve a decent place to live. You can be God's answer to their prayers.
