When you give to Restore Hope, we want you to know exactly how we put your gifts to use. I want to share what we're doing right now thanks to your generosity.
We invest in the health and future for Liberian youth through three avenues. We're bringing group therapy to adolescent boys and girls in secondary schools in an area of Liberia that has little to no access to mental health support. We know that youth are struggling globally and many of the young people in Liberia struggle with additional stressors of poverty and poor educational attainment as well as risky behaviors that jeopardize their future. Providing an effective and accessible path for support is essential to ensuring good mental health in these critical years.
We are also supporting a local school that is innovating to solve the problem of poor literacy levels and overage student drop outs. We partner with Rebuild Africa to ensure that children and young people can attend a literacy first program to master the fundamentals of reading, writing, and numeracy, putting them paces ahead of many of the schools in the area. We are confident our students are receiving the best education in the area and that older students who missed out aren’t left behind.
The area of Liberia we work in is very rural and residents rely heavily on agriculture for their livelihoods. We are working with a local agroforestry organization to create demonstration food forest sites for the community to learn how to utilize the forest in sustainable ways to increase diversity of harvest for food security and economic resiliency.
Right now, the students are doing a school summer camp, our adolescent mental health facilitators are in training, and community members are tending to their fruit and nut tree crops.
Thank you for supporting this work. We couldn’t do it without you.
Gratefully,
Saundra Williams
