New Shoes for the Students of Soko and Valley

Through our partnership with a local NGO, COHESU (Community Health Support Program), we have been able to ensure that the students of the schools we work with receive new school shoes at least twice a year through the TOMS giving One for One project. This program was introduced to combat soil transmitted diseases such as hookworms and jiggers (Tunga penetrans) amongst children in the Lake Victoria Region of Kenya. This also makes the morning walk to school a lot more comfortable and eases the financial burden on parents/guardians who may not have been able to afford a pair of school shoes for their children.

This year, the students of Soko Primary School in Nyakach received 147 new pairs of shoes as a result of this partnership; this included students starting from PP1 (age 3) all the way to Standard 8 (age 15). Another 80 pairs were received by the Students of Valley Academy.
