The project will be able to reach out to 1000 children and their families severely hit by jiggers in Kakamega county.These will include treatment,buying of shoes,bedding's ,food and uniform for the targeted children within the region.
We have been working in communities enhancing access to health for the women leaving with disabilities and in the process, we have encountered community members infested with jiggers! And very high percentages of children out of school due to the problem of jiggers. In order to make our program intervention more holistic, we have designed anti-jigger intervention program to enable children who are affected reached out and treated continue attending school thus reducing school dropout.
Most of the target population is aware of jiggers. Awareness levels on poor hygiene as the underlying cause is clouded by myths and taboos. We seek to demystify these perceptions among the affected victims and the community at large, so that the populations at risk start taking pro-active measures to eradicate jiggers.Through this project the beneficiaries especially school going children will have enough time in school thus improving in the performance in their education and reducing poverty.
