This project will create a family home for two disabled girls that reside in institutions at present. The mother of one of the girls works long hours as a cleaner to pay the fees and has another daughter to care for as well. The other disabled girl has Cerebral Palsy and requires hire care Covid-19 has increased the risks associated with institutional care and has prompted this wonderful project. We will create a family home and pay 'mum' to care for girls full-time.
Two special needs girls that need full-time care are living in sub-optimal institutional conditions; the mother of one of these girls must work long hours to pay the fees, and also has another daughter to support. IGWR has helped 'mum' financially over a number of years but with the challenges brought by the Covid pandemic, we explored a better opportunity for all concerned. We want to bring the girls, and mum/older daughter together as a viable family unit.
By giving mum a 'carer's allowance', and providing a proper family home (not just one room), with the support of professional tuition for the special needs girls, we can create a loving family home that has the support necessary to give these 'special' girls a normal loving family to grow and develop in.
The immediate benefit is for the two special needs girls and an overwroked mum; however, this model will be used to encourage more community based care programs that go beyond the institutional care that is barely adequate in so many developing countries.
