Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the western hemisphere, and high-quality education is out of reach for most children. Bilingual education was not even an option in San Juan del Sur until Escuela Adelante opened its doors in 2014. It isn't cheap to provide qualified bilingual teachers, classroom materials, healthy lunches, field trips, art, music, dance, etc. 90% of our students receive full or partial tuition relief, and we don't ever want to turn families away because of finances.
The tiered tuition model makes Escuela Adelante accessible to all families in San Juan del Sur. Our classes have waiting lists only because of space constraints (and we're always expanding!) Donors can sponsor individual students or simply contribute annually to the tuition relief fund, so that we can enroll any student, regardless of ability to afford tuition. At its core, Escuela Adelante believes that a diverse student body makes a better educational environment for all students and staff.
Hundreds of children now receive a well-rounded bilingual education from preschool through 2nd grade - with more grades added each year! These students will graduate from Escuela Adelante with all the knowledge and language skills they'll need to attend international universities or pursue lucrative careers.
