Due to the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in closure of schools, lots of school going girls in rural Ghana have become pregnant and if nothing is done immediately to send them back to school, they would be married off and have their lives destroyed. This project seeks to support 100 teenage mothers in rural Ghana go back to school to acquire secondary or vocational/technical education. The project will give scholarships to these girls to enable them go back and stay in school till completion.
In Northern Ghana, when a girl becomes pregnant, she is forced to go through a vicious cycle that puts her health, education, earning potential and entire future in jeopardy. She is forced to drop out of school to marry the man responsible for her pregnancy to take away the "shame" she brought her family for becoming pregnant. After giving birth, she does not get to go back to school or do anything meaningful with her life; she stays at home, does chores, has more babies and is prone to abuse
Life Again gives hope, purpose and empowerment to vulnerable teenage mothers by ensuring that they are not married off but are supported to either go back to school or learn a vocation of their choice from which they can build careers and become financially independent women. We first of all sign a contract with the guardians of the girl which prohibits them from forcing her into any marriage and then give the girl a scholarship to go back to school or learn a vocation of her choosing.
This project will save 100 teenage mothers from early/forced marriage and will give them an education that would give them economic independence to rise out of poverty. It would also ensure that teenage pregnancy ends with the teenage mother and does not get passed on to her daughters since research proves that when a teenage mother is financially empowered, she gives a brighter future to her daughters to ensure that they do not become teenage mothers as well.
