As touched in our last report, today we want to give two examples of our "Child Rescue and Adoption" project in Samastipur in Bihar. Bihar is last ranked in the Sustainable Development Index of all states in India. In total, we have placed more than 20 children at new families since the program began and almost 200 children who ran away from home have been successfully either returned to family members or handed over to social institutions.
Let us start with an example of how we rescue children and care of them in our Center. We take care of children aged 0 to six years.
On dated 15.12.2023 one of our staff received unknown call from village “Mahadev Math Rosar” (around 30 km away from Samastipur) for rescue a child who was "thrown on road". After handling the call at 5.00 pm in the evening our team directly reached at the rescue place. After taking villagers in confidence, the child was rescued at 11.50 pm at night. Our team works under the control and direction of the Government in Samastipur. The baby was brought for check-up at Sadar Hospital in Samastipur.
At time of rescue weight of the child was 1.38 kg. As child rescue happened in wintertime, the Doctor was not too optimistic, as the condition of the baby was very critical. The Doctor provided treatment to the newborn and tried to do his best in order to save the life.
The child admitted in SNCU (Special Newborn Care Unit) for nine days where permanent monitoring happened by Hospital staff & our staff. The baby moved to our Center on 23.12.2023.
The pampering, care of child was very difficult at that time, but permanent taking care by our “mothers” helped to significantly improve the health. Presently the weight of the child is 3.9 kg after 4 months caring.
Our second example deals with a child adoption.
On May 22, 2023, a 4-year-old boy was handed over to us by the Child Welfare Committee and looked after by us in the center. We took over temporary guardianship and completed all formalities in accordance with the Juvenile Justice Care and Protection Act.
We applied for exemption for adoption on September 11, 2023, and received the legally valid certificate from the responsible authority on October 17, 2023.
After contacting a couple in Kolkata and completing the complex adoption process, the child was handed over to the adoptive parents in February 2024.
Unfortunately, not all children are so lucky to find new parents after such a short time. In 2023, we were also able to place a girl with a married couple.
There are currently two boys and four girls in our Center, three of whom are in serious need of care and sick.
We very much thank our local partner organization in India, Creation India Society. We are driving together several projects in Varanasi, Samastipur and Bihar.
We are very grateful to you as our sponsor. Without your kind support, nothing would be possible.
