By Tom Webber | Development Director, BridgIT Water USA
Thank you for supporting the Birta Deurali Village, Nepal water project. This interim report is intended to keep supporters informed about the project's progress.
BridgIT Water Foundation completed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP) in March, 2017. KEEP is the local project sponsor, and works with the village leaders to organize the construction, orders and delivers materials and tools to the project site, and pushes the project forward. When needed, KEEP hires contractors to build and install elements of the project. Villagers provide volunteer labor to get much of the work done.
Nepal adopted a new constitution in 2015, and local elections were held in mid-May, 2017. These elections were monumental in Nepal, and everything else took a back seat. Even economic, environmental, and health development projects were put on hold. BWF's Birta project was impacted by these election delays, so progress is not as advanced as we'd hoped.
However, KEEP has assured BWF that it is working hard to get the work back on schedule. Materials have been delivered to Birta village and workers are digging the foundation for the large water storage tank. Please view recent photos that provide a window into the landscape in this area of Nepal, and show the people working to complete the clean, safe water system.
Thank you for supporting the BridgIT Water Foundation.
