Help 100 Girls Complete Primary School

We continue to ensure that as many girls complete their schooling. Despite the many challenges we can report that due to the school calender that was affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic, national exams took place in April this year for the candidates of 2021 and in December another national examination will be done for Grade 6, Grade 8 and Grade 12.

The three national examinations will be done inorder to revert back to the old Kenyan school calender  where national examinations are done between November and December of every year. The effect of COVID-19 aside, Kenya school curriculum also changed to Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) where grade 6 will proceed to Junior Secondary unlike the previous system where grade 8 was the class to join Secondary school.

While we exited 49 students among them 23 girls in Secondary school and 24 pupils in primary school where 11 were girls to colleges, university , tertiary and secondary school in April 2022, this coming December we expect over about 30 girls from grade 6 and grade 8 plus 25 from secondary school.

In total it means a total of 89 girls will be completing their schooling successfully without dropping out this year. We want to sincerely appreciate you because you are part of this success to ensure girls finish their schooling successfully and proceed to join tertiary, colleges and universities as their lives become much better. We have witnessed great successes since we commenced this fundraising through GlobalGiving.

We hope to still do more with your continued assistance. We have a great opportunity to take advantage of the coming week GlobalGiving fundraising campaign between 12-16 September 2022 where any amount upto $50 will be matched 50% ie if one gives $50 during the campaign then the GlobalGiving would give $25 more to our project.

During our last reporting period, out of four girls who were pregnant, only one finally did her grade 12 national examination which took place in the month of April 2022. The three dropped out of school completely hence did not complete. In addition we had the following who managed to complete both their primary and Secondary education which has been our goal for this project.

1. The girls who completed grade 8 were eight (8) for  the class of 2021, Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE). They are all expected to join Secondary schools. However some will not join because of high secondary school fees requirement.
2. In Secondary School grade 12 National exams, thirteen (13) did their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and are expected to join technical colleges or universities. Not all of them will join due to university entry requirement, lack of fee or both but will require a livelihood or something to make a living after their exit.

Now because we want to give a livelihood to these girls, we intend to empower one of our girls who have great skills in crotcheting to train even more girls in crotcheting so that they can use that to make a living.

Marigold (see the past report and herself in her own made cloth) collected few girls and begun to teach them crotcheting during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their interest was overwhelming and many girls showed interest. As part of creating a livelihood for themselves, we intend to help them start a crotcheting and design training school. Urgently they need a budget of $500 to buy a crotcheting kneeting machine to help them automate some process and put them in a position they can make many designs for the market. This will enable them generate some income and create a livelihood by selling these items to the customers. The market is already available and someone just need to help them jumpstart and it will be a ripple effect giving hope to more than a hundred (100) girls.
