School Recycling Contest in Ayapel

As part of our environmental activities during the second semester, and with the active collaboration of the environmental club composed of 60 children and adolescents aged 6 to 14, we achieved significant progress in raising awareness and educating the community about environmental protection. In this context, in July, we launched a school recycling contest that encouraged participation from eight schools in Ayapel. These schools committed to collecting the largest possible amount of recyclable materials over four months. The collected materials were handed over to CorpoAyapel for proper management and disposal.

This contest not only promoted waste collection but also became a valuable opportunity for students to understand the impact of their actions on the care of the Ayapel Marshland. Throughout the initiative, various educational workshops on environmental topics were conducted, allowing participants to learn about the importance of recycling, conserving the local ecosystem, and how their individual efforts contribute to collective well-being.

Recycling was established as a key tool to strengthen environmental education and raise awareness among the region’s youth about the importance of adopting sustainable practices. At the end of the contest, Colegio Sagrado Corazón de Jesús was recognized as the winner, having collected the most recyclable materials. As a reward, the school received a 50” television to enhance their educational experience, thanks to the support provided by Australian Aid and the Australian government.

This event reflects our community’s commitment to promoting environmental education and the preservation of our natural resources through initiatives that engage future generations in building a more sustainable environment.
