Growers becoming independent!

The garden to Market project started 5 years ago as a simple vegetable garden and a tool to help people who have no education and been through traumatic situations. Without any education, most of the growers we have trained struggle to write their own name. They have not had opportunities to succeed and thrive and as a reusult often felt like they had nothing of value to offer. As they began to successfully grow vegetables, herbs and flowers their confidence grew and for the first time in their lives they felt like and were valuable contributors to their communities. They had a purpose in life.

In addition to this, they began to earn money which enabled them to become more financially independent. They could buy food for their children, rather than collecting sraps from garbage cans. They could go to the 2nd hand market and buy garments for 20 cents. It was pure joy as they now had opportunities and choices.

We have trained over 30 gardeners since the beginning of ther project. Waan was one of the first participamnts and she is now thriving with her own plot of land. She rents some land from a neighbour for $75 a month and she has a thriving garden. She is now able to earn about $300 a month with what she grows and sells. On top of that she donates food to the poor. She trains young teens to grow food as well and it wonderful to see that there is an endless cycle to training, harvesting and flourishing.

Thank you for your support.
