Dear friends and family,
Thanks to your support we were able to reach and surpass our goal of raising $20,000 to support the scholarship fund for the class 2020. All your gifts have been matched 3 times raising a more than $80,000 for our scholarship fund!
This year at UWC Costa Rica we are celebrating that 80% of our 203 students from 69 different countries have a full or partial scholarship. Just in the Class of 2020, 40% of students have a full scholarship! This would not be possible without you and your continuous support and generosity, and for that we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Speaking of the Class of 2020, just a few weeks ago they participated in an important milestone in their UWC Costa Rica journey: their firstie camp. This is an off-campus overnight camp where all first year students enjoy team-building and fun activities to foster unity and friendships within their generation. This is also an important component of our Wellness program as it comes at a time in our student’s journey where they start missing home. Through the camp’s activities the students share and validate with each other their feelings, so that when they come back home to campus they say “I feel better because I now know I am not alone.”
We invite you to take a look at some of the photos from this camp at our “October camp for first year students” Album in our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2054570094603810&type=1&l=e1da3f28e6
As the Class of 2020 settles in, we are already planning and preparing for the Class of 2021. Please stay tuned as at the end of this month we will be launching our first campaign to support these future students through our scholarship fund. We hope we can continue to count with your support so that next year we can celebrate again the rich socioeconomic diversity of our community.
With much gratitude and sending you a big abrazo,
Paola Protti
