Hello dear donor,
After our holiday period, we have returned with our support program for transporting children with cancer.
In our association we have had drastic changes to be able to continue with our work.
Just as there are patients who are transferred to another city to continue with their treatment, there have been new patients diagnosed with foreign cancer.
In Mexico it is estimated that between 5,000 and 6,000 new cases of cancer occur in children under 18 years of age. Among those that mainly highlight the leukemias, which represent 52% of the total of cases; lymphomas 10% and tumors of the central nervous system 10%. (1)
The estimated survival in Mexico is close to 60% of the diagnosis. The incidence rate of cases of cancer is 9 cases per 100 thousand under 18 years for the population does not have health insurance in the Mexican Republic, this population does not have medical services from the IMSS, Pemex, ISSTE, that is, whose parents are not working in any company or government entity, to dedicate many of them to the field.
Therefore new diagnoses of patients does not have health insurance should be taken to a medical unit that transfers them to a Regional Hospital to process their insurance through the Catastrophic Protection Fund (Seguro Popular) so that these children under the age of 18 are insured for their treatment. (Now by law all those young students who do not have any type of insurance, are insured in the IMSS) while IMSS now has the student insurance to studiants in higher education and postgrade.
From 2007 to 2016, Seguro Popular covered the treatment of almost 24 thousand minors with cancer.
It is very important to avoid that these patients leave their treatments because they do not have economic resources for their transfer, in addition to that if they leave their treatment they automatically lose their insurance and then we process through other foundation the medicament support to restart their treatment and this is after of a relapse.
We thank all our donors of 2017 and those who joined in the year end Campaign to contribute to our cause.
Many many thanks
