We are excited to share the latest updates from our Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery Project at Al-Mustafa Hospital! Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we are making significant strides in improving the lives of children suffering from cleft conditions across Pakistan. Here’s a glimpse of our progress from the last quarter:

Surgical Achievements

This quarter, we successfully performed 58 free surgeries on children in need! Our dedicated surgical teams carried out

• 46 Cleft Lip surgeries
• 12 Cleft Lip and Palate surgeries

Each of these surgeries is a step towards restoring not just smiles but also confidence and hope for the future.

Comprehensive Care

In addition to surgeries, we are committed to providing comprehensive care. This quarter, we facilitated 250 patients with vital pre-operative and post-operative services, ensuring that our young patients receive the following:

• Investigations to prepare for surgery
• Dental treatments
• Ongoing speech therapy
• ENT consultations
• Psychological support

Age Breakdown of Young Patients

We believe in catering to the unique needs of each age group. Here’s how our patient demographics look:

• 1 to 12 months: 40 children
• 1 to 5 years: 8 children
• 6 to 10 years: 1 child
• 11 to 15 years: 3 children
• 16 to years: 1 child
• 20 and above: 5 individuals

Community Outreach

In the first five months of 2024, the Al-Mustafa Cleft Project successfully operated on 110 children, giving each one a chance to smile without fear. These transformative surgeries are the cornerstone of our mission, and every success story is a reflection of your support.

 

Comprehensive Care Beyond Surgery

Our holistic care approach ensures that each patient receives the necessary support before, during, and after their surgery. The support services include:

 

- Pre-op and Post-op Investigations: Each of the 110 patients underwent thorough investigations to ensure their well-being.

- Dental Treatments: Alongside surgical care, dental treatments play a vital role in our patient care.

 

Serving Vulnerable Age Groups

Our patients span a wide range of ages, each with unique needs and stories. Here's the classification based on age:

- Children aged 1 to 12 months old: 56

- Children aged 1 to 5 years old: 29

- Children aged 6 to 10 years old: 10

- Children aged 11 to 15 years old: 4

- Young adults aged 16 to 20 years old: 6

- Adults aged 20 and above: 5

 

 

Treatment Details from January to May 2024

Here are the specifics of the various treatments conducted:

- Cleft Lip Surgeries: 80

- Cleft Lip and Palate Surgeries: 30

- Lab Investigations: 83 different lab tests were performed to ensure patient safety and health.

 

Broader Spectrum of Care

Apart from cleft surgeries, we provided the following crucial treatments and services:

- Consultations: 498 consultations were provided to address patient concerns, guide them through the process, and ensure comprehensive care.

- Admissions for Postponed Surgeries: 100 patients required admissions due to postponed surgeries, ensuring they received continuous care and preparation.
