Franzisca Vet Clinic: Help Us Help Them - Report XII
By Violina Kirova | Senior Administrator
Reporting Period - 01.10.2024 – 31.12.2024
In the period of October to December 2024, we continued our work with stray animals in Bulgaria. We tried to help and find good homes for as many of the animals we rescued as possible. Thanks to the supporters of Animal Rescue Sofia, Franzisca Veterinary Clinic admitted for treatment 181 dogs and cats, while the vets also attended to all the animals placed in “The Farm” shelter. A total of 1 839 manipulations, treatments and surgeries were performed in October through December of 2024 and 18 dogs and cats from Animal Rescue Sofia shelter found their forever homes.
The stories of Lara, Roshla, Charlotte and Mats-Mats are accounts of how we helped these dogs and cats in particular. They are just a small number of the animals we rescued during the reporting period.
Lara
This big and beautiful girl came to our clinic with a prolapsed vagina. The surgical treatment of this condition in dogs is easy – it requires only a spaying and very soon the lack of hormones helps it. In Lara’s case, though, it was more complicated, as she had stayed without treatment for too long. The vets in our clinic managed Lara’s case successfully and under their good care, she is now fully recovered and healthy. After she was healed, Lara was placed in our shelter, The Farm, where she is expecting her adopters.
Roshla
Roshla is an elderly stray lady. She had been living on the streets of a neighborhood in Sofia for more than 14 years. Roshla was a community dog – the people in the neighborhood were feeding her. These people called us for help, when a large mammary tumor Roshla had, became so big that she couldn’t even get up. Luckily, our vets performed a surgery and she soon felt better. Because of her age, diagnosis and the extremely cold winter this year, we and the people, who took care of her in the city, decided that it would be better if she stayed under a medical observation and Roshla was placed at the shelter.
Charlotte
Charlotte had been an abandoned pet, roaming the streets of Sofia, when we received a call about her. As female roaming dogs are our main goal for spaying, we took her in. It was quite late – Charlotte was heavily pregnant. Additional tests showed she also suffers from heartworm. The vets accepted her in the clinic and a few days later Charlotte gave birth to 8 puppies. Her heartworm treatment is almost over and soon she will be ready to find a good home.
Matz-Matz
The tiny kitty Matz-Matz was found with a broken spine. We don’t know if she was hit by a vehicle or kicked, but the vets guessed that the damages would have been much bigger, if it was a road accident. Matz-Matz went for an urgent orthopedec surgery and little by little she started walking again. She was later adopted and now lives happily in a loving home.
