We are happy to report that we were able to correct enough funds during as we initially thought we needed, to establish a food and eco forest at our Womens shelter. This was very exciting and we give a big shout out to our supporters.
After major considerartion we were reminded that we planned on using unskilled labour from our women at the shelter and even though this would have saved costs it may take a long time to get an establishedd forest. With this in mind we are now planning to hire an expert in drylands food and eco forest and in the spirit of permaculture, if we do this then it would only be wise to hold a workshop and share the skills with our farmers and permaculturist in the community during the implementation phase.
As part of implementing a successful food and eco forest, 3 of our staff members enrolled through a scholarship for an online course with Quail spring for permaculture designs, which entailed sessions on tree and food forest designs. This was aimed at equipping the team with relevant knowledge and skills in line with the project.
Currently, the project has started with building up the soil, sampling done and improving the soil structure which is the very first step in our design. We have also started doing earthworks for optimizing water retention on the site. We are trying to plant seedlings though it has been very dry and no rains.
We will need funding during the implementation stage especcially for the trainer and the assistant. We plan to hold the workshop once we have enough funds to pay the trainers. We will appreciate any assistance possible. Please help us pass on the word.
On behave of our beneficiarries who are victims of sexual and domestic violence, we thank you all.
The Agagtha Amani Team.
