Last month we had the closure of the project, where we supported 25 indigenous women directly, and 117 people indirectly. We only received a small grant from a local partner in Colombia so we worked just with them.
The project assisted the women in the strengthening if their culture, especially in food production. With the orchards they increased the consumption of vegetables rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber that enhance their nutrition.
The women are grateful for the food encounters, the mesh for the fence and the seeds we delivered. They expressed that with the donations they worked together with their husbands and children in the strengthening of their orchards, developing nurseries for the sustainability of the seeds. Also, they were happy for the encounters to gather and share in other spaces different from the monthly meeting, and for the recipe book we gave them.
During the project we identified some leaderships but they don’t really feel key agents of change within the community, they consider the leaders are already chosen, and they feel motivated to work for the family development but not interested at a communitarian level.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
