This report brings some sadness as a number of children experienced illnesses during this period. The monthly anthropometric measurements reveal that some children lost weight, likely due to recovering from conditions such as vomiting, urinary tract infections, coughs and colds, pneumonia, and upper respiratory infections. One (1) child had to be admitted to the ER for six (6) hours and was prescribed take-home medication for UTI. Other children received medical check-ups from a Consultant Pediatrician and were prescribed medications, including Seretide, prednisone 10, and antibiotics. A total of twenty (20) children, aged between twenty-two (22) days and six (6) years, received medical attention and medications. These children were closely monitored by our licensed center nurse and all recovered after about a week, by the third week of February 2025.
To help boost the children's immune systems, particularly those who are undernourished, we provided them with Pediasure milk, multivitamins, and additional protein-rich foods and fruits. A baby under one (1) month old was newly admitted to the shelter and program in February. However, she remains in the isolation room to avoid contact with the other babies who were ill at the time of her admission.
Currently, six (6) children are undergoing therapy interventions, such as occupational and speech therapy. All of these children are enrolled in formal daycare programs, progressing to Kinder 1. Three (3) other children are scheduled for developmental pediatrician assessments in the third quarter of this year. In the Philippines, it often takes longer to schedule these specific assessments, which are crucial for identifying targeted interventions. However, the Early Childhood Care and Development checklist helps our social workers and house parents monitor the children's milestones effectively.
We are grateful for your generosity and kindness towards our kids. The blessings you chose to share with our kids greatly help us in providing them the medical and educational foundation they need to thrive and develop. May the good Lord richly reward you exponentially with all the love and support you have continuously blessed us with all these years.
