Being a Kid Is Their Job

ABCS and RICE has also been affected by COVID 19 as the Cambodian government announced the immediate closure of all schools on March 7, 2020.

Thanks to your generosity, ABCs and Rice was able to swiftly respond with the provision of daily hot meals and homework assignments for the first three weeks.  Since then, we have adjusted our plans in response to changes in need, our reduced budget, and the health and safety of our staff.  We now serve food and supplies to 80 of our most needy families each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. 

As of July 12th we have distributed:  2380 hot meals, 665 toothbrushes, 612 kg of salt and sugar, 11656 kg of rice, 1329 bars of soap, 1054  bottles of oils & sauces, 1740 kg of vegetables, 10800 eggs, 1314 cans of fish, 159 kg fresh fish, 320 rations of smoked fish, hand sanitizer, face masks, detergent, shampoo, 100 loaded pencil cases, books and more!  

Thanks to donors like you as well as: the Cambodian Rice Run, Australia,  S.E Asia Foundation, USA,  Group Company, UK,  Cambodian Education Fund, USA,  and Pack the Essentials, Belgium, we can continue with food support during this crisis.

We are very grateful for Reety and Tod and everyone who donated to our annual Cambodia Rice Run!  This annual event provided 5075 kg of rice, 1500 reusable face masks, 512 kg of salt and sugar, 406 bottles of soy and fish sauce, soap, toothbrushes and other necessities. 

 We would also like to thank Hayley who instead of receiving birthday gifts, organized a fundraiser which provided 5000 eggs to ABCS and RICE!

 We appreciate the generosity of Phil and everyone at Genevieve’s Restaurant for their support over the last couple of months.

We are thankful for our Khmer staff for their help with the distribution of food to our students and villagers and for cleaning and painting our classrooms.   We are also grateful for the help of a couple of our former graduates, Sokhim who is studying agriculture and Kolbot  who is studying to be a doctor.

ABCS AND RICE is a school in Cambodia that has grown from one hut and a few students in just over 10 years, to a school which provides free food and education to  more than 200 of the most needy local children. 

Without you these children would not have had the opportunity to attend our school as well as local government run schools.  Without you, our graduates would not have been able to study at medical school, have the opportunity to study agricultural engineering or attend culinary school.  

Without generous people like you, our students would be hungry.  Without your help, their families wouldn’t have enough food to eat as well.

Your generosity has helped us to expand our school and make it wheelchair accessible.  With your help our students and local villagers have access to clean water.  Because of your generosity our students have had access to computers, clothes, school supplies, transportation, dental care, medical treatment and  emergency assistance to address their social needs.
