Floods in Colombia Emergency Fund

In a significant stride towards community development, CorpoAyapel and Fundación Grupo Éxito have joined forces to support expectant mothers, infants, and children in Ayapel. This partnership aims to provide comprehensive access to healthcare services, education, nutritional monitoring, and dietary supplementation, all of which are critical for the optimal growth and development of young individuals.

The Urgent Need: In Ayapel, the infant mortality rate among children under one year of age is alarmingly high at 30.9%, as reported by the National Planning Department (DNP). This statistic is well above the national average of 17.6% for Colombia. Furthermore, studies conducted by Fundación Éxito have revealed that Ayapel is categorized as level 3 (low) on the chronic malnutrition index, with a rating of 3 out of 10, where 10 represents the highest level of malnutrition.

Target Beneficiaries: 

• Pregnant mothers (adolescents up to 19 years old regardless of their nutritional status, women over 19 years old with low weight for gestational age, and individuals of all ages with anemia or obesity)
• Infants and children (children under 6 months with low birth weight (<2500 g) and/or preterm birth (< 37 weeks), children under 6 months with macrosomia (>4000 g), children under 12 months at risk of acute or chronic malnutrition, and children under 12 months with anemia)

Impactful Collaborations: This endeavor showcases the power of alliances that make a tangible impact on the community:

• Fundación Éxito contributes a monthly package of fresh, nutritionally valuable foods.
• CorpoAyapel focuses on continuous monitoring of children's growth and development, supporting prenatal check-ups, and ensuring adherence to vaccination schedules.

Embracing Breastfeeding: CorpoAyapel recently participated in the Lactatón event organized by Fundación Éxito, which promotes nationwide awareness of the importance of breastfeeding. During this event, 35 lactating women gathered at the Ayapel headquarters to engage in education and collaboration surrounding the significance of maternal breastfeeding. This initiative is part of the ongoing partnership between CorpoAyapel and Fundación Grupo Éxito to support pregnant mothers, infants, and children.

In the first 4 months of the year 2023 we focus on carrying out learning activities about the environment, if people do not begin to change their way of thinking for more efforts that are made, the world will not change. 

Trainings about managing the family economy were also held. Those who do not learn to manage their economic resources and generate other income will find it more difficult to prosper. We teach doing, create, and undertake, if you teach to progress, the people progress by itself.

 Donations have been few, and we still continue with the floods, more than 50,000 people affected, neighborhoods and schools flooded, help us help.
