Greetings and thank you again for being part of our community! Everything we do is rooted in our on-site hands-on care for animals at the sanctuary, and direct animal care costs represent more than 70% of our annual budget.
I wanted to make sure that you see our annual Year in Review, so that you know what you have helped to make happen!
This year, in addition to the day-in and day-out labor of caring for hundreds of chickens, cows, ducks, goats, sheep, geese, turkeys, and others, we organized hundreds of educational events, which are described in the attached report. We also won a "Spirit of the ADA" award from our state's Committee on the Employment of People with Disabilities and won a "Radical Spark" award from a nationally prominent feminist organization led by women of color.
On-site, we used salvaged materials to build four new sanctuary features: an elevated "goat walk" inside the main barn, a "sheep retreat" adjacent to that barn, a "recreation and elevation" area within one of the foraging yards for birds, and a new bird infirmary.
Volunteers helped to build all of those structures, highlighting the fact that we can't do it alone. If you're making end-of-year donations this week, we promise to put your gift to good use in 2025, when we will be celebrating our 25th anniversary!
