HFHC employs local women in each school community to prepare hot lunches and serve nutritious meals to students. These women are the backbone of this initiative; many arrive at school kitchens before dawn and stay late into the afternoon so that students have the nourishment they need.
One of the grandmothers oversees the school lunch program at the school in Dubuisson, Haiti. When I asked her “ Can you tell me how has the lunch program impacted the children?” Her smile grew wide and she immediately said “Oh, so much, SO MUCH!”. She told me that each morning when children arrive at school, they FIRST visit her in the kitchen before going to their classroom. They want to be reassured that a meal will be waiting for them in a few hours for lunch. When children grow up in a state of food insecurity, they need to be reassured over and over again that they will have food that day.
We are so grateful to our partners who donate to feed hungry children. Because of these donations, children will have healthier lives, better education, and opportunities for a hopeful future.
