Happy Holidays! December update
As the school year in Bolivia comes to a close and the children prepare for their summer vacation, excitement is in the air, for it is almost Christmas! Later this month the families will gather at the Centre to celebrate the end of the year with a Christmas fiesta, which will include gifts for the children. This Fall we were thrilled to see our computer lab expand by 6 new desktops, one laptop, and a printer, thanks to a grant from Fig Tree Foundation, and the generosity of our donors. We boosted the internet speed again, and now the children are online and using this new technology to research, write, and print school reports. Even if they were in class, this could not be done, as the local school has only 2 old computers, and no internet! Digital learning at the Centre is now in full swing, providing crucial skills so necessary for post secondary education, as well as employment. We are humbled and grateful for this big step forward for the children.
The sewing program also started this Fall, and included two classes – one for mothers, and one for older students. Their first assignment was to learn how to make themselves PPE! They all enjoyed learning new skills, and seeing the products of their hard work. In January we will start a microproject page on GlobalGiving to raise funds for a teacher for further sessions, which will include entrepreneurship training so that they make take their skills and turn this into income. We will also post microprojects for some maintenance issues, such as adding space heaters to the classrooms, adding doors to the washroom stalls, etc. Please check our page when you can!
In 2022 we are looking to grow our monthly donor base with the goal of having monthly donations cover at least 50% of our program costs by year end. Are you able to provide a monthly gift, or increase your monthly gift to help us meet this goal?
