Spring 2025 Update from Bolivia

By Lydia Hill | Project Leader

The new Juk'at Juk'ata Centre
The new Juk'at Juk'ata Centre

After a good summer break, the children headed back to school at the end of February, and HBF turned a new chapter. On March 7th we celebrated a milestone several years in the making - the grand opening of the Juk'at Juk'ata Centre in El Alto! This new centre brings together the Villa Ingenio and Tahuantinsuyo programs under one roof, offering children a safe space for educational support, hot lunches, and psychological counselling.

One of the first visitors to the new centre was long time (Barcelona-based) HBF volunteer Freddie Crown who spent a week at the Centre interacting with the children, teaching English, and running out of breath on the soccer field at 4,100 metres above sea level. Thank you, Freddie, for a memorable visit the children will not soon forget! Thank you also for bringing the lovely Bolivian singer/songwriter Vero Perez to meet and entertain the children. If you haven’t seen Vero perform in the HBF Boliviart 2023 Festival Freddie and HBF volunteer Milena put together, check out the link on the homepage of our website.

Everyone at HBF and HBF’s in-country partner Ahiezer Foundation are thrilled to bits with the new Centre. This milestone would not have been possible without our generous donors - thank you for making this dream a reality!

Coming this Spring, HBF will be officially partnering with Bolivian NGO Casa Kusisina to bring a nutrition program to the children the Casa Kusisina Centre serves. Stay tuned for photos and stories as HBF expands its support to help even more underprivileged children and their families in Bolivia.

In many communities, government assistance is virtually non-existent. There are no food banks and no formal social safety nets. HBF works directly with local partners to support Indigenous children and families living in poverty. Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty by helping children stay in school, succeed academically, and access the nutrition and emotional support they need to thrive.

THANK YOU for helping these children and their families. We could not do what we do without you.

If you haven’t done so already, please consider adding your “Grain of Sand” to help these families by signing up as a monthly donor at $10 a month. Monthly donations made up of many “Grains of Sand” provide the consistent, stable funding needed to budget, plan, and allow for growth to help more children. Thank you again - together we are making a difference!
