Starvation is very common throughout the entire country of Kenya due to the incredibly harsh climate. Thanks to your donations, we have been able to provide the children and their guardians at the Makindu Children’s Centre with hearty meals. We serve them one meal a day made up of ugali, (maze) rice and sukuma wiki (a kale like vegetable that grows rapidly around the area). Along with providing meals we are able to help them maintain their farm land. At the centre we grow tomatoes, chilis and sukuma- a kale like vegetable. Beans and eggs are their main sources of protein. We hope to continue to serve the children and their guardians but also to help them grow their own produce. During celebrations and traditional holidays, we help children and their families enjoy a special meal like the one you will see in the photo. During the events the children are not shy and take lots of food because they are not used to seeing and having so much food.
Thank you for your continued support.
Asante
