Maintenance and growing businesses in Mbata

By Catherine Gwynne-Evans | Assistant Project Manager

Hi friends, it is Catherine from Smart Villages and Peter from Kiima Foods, updating you about the progress of the Mbata Smart-Agri Centre (SAC).

In the past 3 months, there has been a big focus on improvements and maintenance to existing infrastructure and equipment, with a lot of work put into the site and community from our teams. There have been a number of new businesses starting up within the SAC, which includes a fried chicken business that is pictured below. There are now more than 50 businesses that have received power from the SAC, enabling them to operate longer and add value to their produce.

Since October, we have conducted repainting and air conditioning maintenance for the cold store, to ensure the produce is able to stay fresh and cold in the sealed room. The cold store is looking fantastic!

There have also been repairs and maintenance for the productive use equipment at the site, which will ensure the community of Mbata is able to continue processing their agricultural produce. The solar panels have also been cleaned.

Welding, coffee processing and other productive activities are continuing as planned!

We have also heard some fantastic feedback from the community in terms of what the SAC means to them.

With your support, we can continue the repairs and maintenance that improve the lives and prospects of farmers and entrepreneurs in Mbata. As always, feel free to share this project with friends, colleagues and family, and get in touch for more information or if you want to support in other ways!

Many thanks,

The Smart Villages and Kiima Foods Team
