Nearly There!

Meeting with TBAs
Meeting with TBAs

In the past couple months, we've been unloading equipment as it arrives for our brand new Maternity Center that will be opening this year. We are getting more and more excited for this opportunity to serve more women in our community! However, we know that a cruicial piece of maternal health is the care expecting mamas receive before their due date. Just yesterday we traveled to Kambi Ya Simba, about an hour by car from FAME's clinic, to meet with five Traditional Birth Attendants who assist expecting mothers in their rural communities surrounding Kambi Ya Simba. After discussing with them about general maternal health, we provided them each with a coupon for one woman in their village to recieve her prenatal care at FAME for free. Our prenatal program includes four prenatal visits, two ultrasounds, prenatal vitamins, prenatal education, and a discount on delivery if the woman delivers at FAME. The ultrasound images during prenatal are critical for our team to determine due date as well as any complications that may be present. As we raise the final $8,000 for our new ultrasound machine to assist our staff and mamas, we want to extend a massive thank you to everyone who has given so far. We are hoping to complete the fundraising within the next couple months to have the machine here when our new Maternity Center opens. As a crucial diagnostic tool, we look forward to seeing how the ultrasound machine will help FAME's staff advance prenatal care and maternal health here in Karatu, Tanzania.

With gratitude,

Kathrine and the FAME team
