Lack of ophthalmological treatment facilities in the area. In Afghanistan, it is estimated that over 400 000 people are blind and about 1.5 million are visually impaired. Every year, around 25.000 Afghans lose their vision in one eye, a condition mostly affecting females. Lack of medical, gynaeco-obstetric, dental, laboratory facilities and vaccination coverage facilities in the area.
Eye care facilities can prevent, about 80% of blindness. Cataract can be operated on through a simple procedure in outpatient clinics. To provide high quality general medical, gynaeco-obstetric, dental and vaccination services to the Afghan community in Jalalabad.
Ophthalmological treatment provided for approximately 7000-9000 patients Medical, & surgical treatment provided for approximately 8,000 patients Dental treatment provided for approximately 2000 patients per year Special focus on mother & child health care & malnourished children 24 hour service of gynaeco-obstetric clinic for mothers with delivery centre provided for approximately 2500 patients per year. Approximately 10000 children, young girls and mothers per year vaccinated.
