Malu

By Diana Richardson | Executive Director

Malu is a 17-year-old boy with a heart full of dreams and a spirit that refuses to be broken, despite the many hardships he has faced. His life has been a difficult journey marked by loss, disability, and the daily challenges of living with cerebral palsy. Malu was orphaned five years ago after the tragic passing of both of his parents, leaving him vulnerable and in dire need of support. Thankfully, Makindu Children’s Center became his new home, providing him with love, care, and a community where he could thrive.

For the past five years, Malu has been a beloved member of the Makindu Children’s Center. His bright personality and determination to overcome his limitations have endeared him to everyone around him. However, Malu’s battle with cerebral palsy has not been easy. His condition has left him with stiff muscles, severely restricting his mobility and independence. His doctors have recommended consistent physiotherapy exercises to improve his movement and help alleviate the stiffness in his body.

Over the past few months, Malu has been making remarkable progress. He has been traveling to a hospital two towns away to receive weekly physiotherapy sessions. Thanks to these sessions, some of the body parts that were previously stiff are now starting to move, giving him a new sense of hope. His progress has been encouraging, but the reality is that weekly sessions alone are not enough for Malu to reach his full potential.

The doctors have advised that Malu be linked with the Association of People Living with Disability in Kenya (APDK), an organization that specializes in providing daily physiotherapy and other support services for individuals with disabilities. This would be a life-changing opportunity for Malu, as it would enable him to receive the consistent, specialized care he needs to improve his mobility and quality of life.

However, the challenge is that transportation to and from the APDK facility will be expensive and logistically difficult. The facility is located far from Malu’s current home, and the costs of transportation on a daily basis would quickly become overwhelming, which already works tirelessly to meet the needs of many other vulnerable children. Without reliable transportation, Malu may not be able to access the daily physiotherapy that is crucial for his progress.

This is where we urgently need your help. By supporting Malu’s medical care, you will be giving him a chance at a better life. Your donations will help cover the cost of transportation to the APDK facility, ensuring that Malu can receive the daily physiotherapy sessions that will improve his movement, independence, and overall well-being. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in Malu’s life.

Malu’s resilience and determination have brought him this far, but he cannot do it alone. With your help, we can ensure that he gets the medical care he desperately needs, enabling him to live a more independent and fulfilling life. Please consider supporting Malu’s journey towards better health and mobility. Your kindness and generosity will give him a brighter, more hopeful future.

Thank you for your compassion and support. Together, we can help Malu achieve the progress he deserves and empower him to overcome the challenges of cerebral palsy.
