Dear Friends of ACDI/VOCA:
Your generous support of our GlobalGiving campaign will make it possible for 200 Jamaican youth between the ages of 8–17 to help their communities manage the effects of climate change!
With your help, ACDI/VOCA staff at headquarters and in Jamaica are busy preparing for a successful and impactful one-day Climate Camp in Kingston this July. Recently, Climate Camp staff met to develop a comprehensive and dynamic curriculum, identify a venue, and make logistical plans for a smooth event.
It’s worth noting that staff are also reaching out to local companies to engage their employees as volunteers. Climate Camp attendees will gain from the perspectives of professionals whose work involves climate change management, and participating companies benefit from recognition as committed corporate partners in their communities.
As operational details firm up, there is growing excitement among Jamaican youth for the Climate Camp. Jadan Johnson, a participant in the 2015 Youth Climate Change Conference managed by ACDI/VOCA, expects great things from the camp: "I would hope not to only learn about climate change but to do something that can help to combat climate change. For me, I’m very techy so [I want to] apply robotics and create mini wind turbines and solar-powered tech. I hope it’s hands-on, like a change maker camp, [including] challenges from planting 100 trees to building stuff and even crafting advocacy campaigns that tap into our generation.”
