We've just finished our first semester with lots of environmental education activites under our belt! A community festival presentation, a field trip and now, recycling bins to place around school!
Our most recent activity was the construction of various recycling bins to put up around the school. Sixth graders made the bins out of natural materials like bamboo and wood, or recycled materials like cardboard. They built the bins here at school and painted them. Not only was it a fun and practical way to talk about the importance of recycling, but now there are recycling bins all over school wherever they could be needed!
In addition to programming, the funds raised for the Environmental Education programincludes the salary for our science teacher employed at school. Enrique Vera has been working with Los Algarrobos for four years now. He is very loved by students and parents and is most famous for his creative projects and fun artisitic presentations. Thanks to your continued support, we are able to pay Enrique for his hard work and keep him coming back each year!
As you may have heard in the news, there are massive protests happening all over Ecuador. This has caused the Ministry of Education to close schools for over a week now. There are no students to enjoy our beautiful library! With the economic paralysis we are experiencing, we expect the coming months to be very difficult for our Los Algarrobos families to contribute with tuition.
Please consider a donation to help get our families and teachers through this tough time!
