Worst Hunger crisis being faced in Africa
Africa is currently facing its worst hunger crisis with over 160 million people going hungry. Kenya is one of the many countries grappling with this alarming issue.Factors such as skyrocketing food prices, ongoing conflicts within and outside the country, and the effects of climate change are the key drivers pushing millions to the brink of extreme hunger.
Climate events and extreme weather conditions have led countries in Eastern Africa, Kenya being one of them to experience the worst drought it has had in at least the last four decades. The population facing the severity of these events are those that are already vulnerable. There have been on-going relief efforts, policies and discussions held out to tackle this challenge. Read our main project’s report to see what RKF has been doing to provide relief: A Plateful of Relief
In addressing the challenges of climate change, we believe that education is an essential first step. How can we take effective action if we don't understand what we are tackling? Hence, our initial focus through this project is on educating students through our Climate Action Workshops. These workshops equip students with the knowledge and awareness necessary to understand climate change and its impacts. It doesn’t stop there though, we follow up by creating green spaces within their schools, allowing them to build and nurture gardens. This practical involvement makes caring for the environment a part of their daily habits, instilling a long-term commitment to sustainable practices.
