Computer Equipments Deployed

By Philippe Socka | Projet Leader

Unwrapping a new gadget can be as fun as using it for the first time. The same sense of fun was always present while we were unpacking these computer equipments and testing them for our STEM education program in Cameroon.

It took us almost 3 months to transport these equipments from the US to Cameroon. Thanks to the fantastic group effort between our US and Cameroon volunteer’s team, we are pleased to announce that we have successfully deployed the needed computer equipments on the ground in Nkongsamba, Cameroon. It took us time and effort to ship, track, unpack them and get them ready to inspire girls to pursue STEM education and career.

“In Cameroon and Africa in general, woman always thinks that her place is at home and that man is supposed to go out every morning and in the evening, she would wait for him to return home. I say no because the woman has as much duty as men. We must work to prepare what we want to be tomorrow. We would not stand and wait for man to work. It is also very importance to have a good education because the woman who attended school and had a good education should not be the one who stay home and wait for the man to do it all. So for me today, I'd have a career tomorrow. Why? Thanks to the new technology introduced by Manengouba Foundation, I will learn and do my best to have a good education in computer science ........I would like to thank those who came from far away with these computer materials to make us learn these values that we ignored the in the past ...’’ Alvine – CSB student.

Your donation has helped fund the shipment of these computer equipments. As the first phase is now completed, we are currently taking part of the second phase of the project which is to train a core team of 6 teachers from our partner school (CSB) on basic computer literacy, email, including Microsoft office training ( word, excel , power point etc…) and how to train others. Next, we will establish a new computer lab with 30 desktop computers to be shared by 600 students.

We are delighted to accomplish the first phase of the project, but we are still in desperate need of support for our training of trainers’ initiative designed for teachers who will be empowered to provide subsequent training to their students.

A special recognition to Europ Assistance USA and American Association for Laboratory Accreditation aka “A2LA” that have donated respectively the desktop computers and monitors for our upcoming initiative.

We thank you for your ongoing support of this project and encourage you to stay tuned for our next report.
