Calcutta Rescue's solar panel initiative in the Saltlake No. 12 slum is progressing steadily, aiming to provide sustainable lighting and cooling for households in need. With plans to install 20-22V solar panels, the project will directly benefit 10 families, offering essential evening lighting for students and relief from extreme heat for vulnerable residents. Selection of beneficiary households has been carefully conducted, involving community leaders to prioritize families with students and elderly members. In addition to household selection, CR has focused on building community capacity through training sessions on solar panel maintenance, empowering residents to ensure long-term effectiveness. Although funding constraints have delayed full implementation, non-financial activities such as awareness programs and training are preparing the community for successful adoption of solar technology. Ongoing fundraising efforts, motivated by the visible enthusiasm of the community, reflect CR's commitment to making this transformative solar initiative a reality.
