Activities of the fishery improvement project August 2023

Community fishing monitoring of finfish species in 3 ports.

This month, we had Hurricane Hillary, which affected our area and this generated a change of priorities in the fishermen of the region, who did not continue with fishing log records for an understandable reason.

From January to August we have a record of 215 fishing days.

Meetings were held with the implementing team of the Sustainable Fisheries Project with the purpose of monitoring the goals and objectives of the project.

The management of lobster development (research) permits in the Santa Rosalía-Mulegé corridor was monitored, observations were received from CONAPESCA (National Aquaculture and Fisheries Commission) and we are working with the applicants to comply.

The first partial report for the Mexican Fund for Nature Conservation is concluded in 2023, which includes a technical and administrative aspect.

It was possible to carry out 28 surveys of fishermen divers in order to carry out a qualitative linking analysis on changes in the marine environment.

On August 23 and 24, we participated in the FIPs Community of Practice Workshop in Latin America and the Caribbean held in San José, Costa Rica, which was essential to exchange knowledge and experiences, promote sustainability and build support networks.

As a result of the effects caused by the Hillary meteorological phenomenon in different locations of the Santa Rosalía-Mulegé corridor, the fisheries team supported the distribution of food supplies to highly affected communities, which accelerated the recovery of families with the facilitation of the basic supplies for the needs of the vulnerable communities, which come from ASA Alimentaria.
