Awareness and adoption of social responsibility

June - July (2022)

The bibliography on the Human Rights and Social Responsibility Policy recognized by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Fishery Progress (FP) was managed, ordered and synthesized. The team was prepared with the online course on Human Rights and Social Responsibility entitled "Upcoming SRA Training" endorsed by Fishery Progress and delivered by ELEVATE AN LRQA COMPANY. Conducted field visits to Santa Rosalía, San Bruno and H. Mulegé and held face-to-face meetings with members of the Fisheries Improvement Project (FIP) and provided information related to the development of awareness of Social Responsibility in the construction of the Fisheries Improvement Project.

July - August (2022)

Planned workshops to be implemented to comply with requirements 1.1 (Declaration on Human Rights Policy (DPDH) (formerly the Code of Conduct) and 1.5 (Self-assessment of risk) which are part of the first dossier to register the FIP on the Fishery Progress platform. Field visits were made to Santa Rosalía, San Bruno and H. Mulegé and face-to-face meetings were held with members of the FIP and some producers involved in the FIP. Supported the development of COBI trainings for the use of PescaData in the communities of Santa Rosalia and San Bruno. Members of the FIP implementation team were provided with information related to the development of Social Responsibility for the Fisheries Improvement Project.The Social Responsibility Assessment Tool for Fishery Progress was developed.

A working collaboration (in verbal agreement) was established with the coordinator of FIPs of Smart Fish ONG and the action path of the social aspect was corroborated under his advice. Pre-agreements were established on the productive and economic aspect of the producers once the FIP was registered in the Fishery Progress platform.

September - October (2022)

Participation in the weekly meetings of the FIP implementation team; Fundación Hagamos Más por Santa Rosalía and ECOWB. 

Documents 1.1 and 1.5 required by FP were signed in the first complete dossier of the FIP at the meetings of the Fisheries sub-committee. Conducting Social Responsibility surveys were made. Enrollment in training/alignment for certification in the EC 0301 and 0217.01 Competence Standards dealing with the development of courses for individuals and groups of people and their delivery. A project has been consolidated to obtain funding in the Social Responsibility program for the FIP on the GlobalGiving platform.

October - November (2022)

Participation in the weekly meetings of the FIP implementation team; Fundación Hagamos Más por Santa Rosalía and ECOWB. The surveys were applied and a preliminary report of them was constructed, it was possible to apply 22 surveys of Social Responsibility in the Sustainable Fisheries project. Participated in the meeting of the Subcommittee on Fisheries for the presentation of the work of Social Responsibility, specifically worked on documents 1.1 and 1.5 required by FP in the first complete dossier of the FIP. The documents (1.1 and 1.5) have been signed by leaders of fishing cooperatives, local suppliers of fishery inputs, legal representative of fisheries in the region and competent authorities in the fisheries sector, State, Municipal and Institutional (CONAPESCA and INAPESCA).

The Social Responsibility program and the Fisheries Improvement Project were presented to the authorities and disseminated in local digital news:

November - December (2022)

Planned information management on Social Responsibility through participatory workshops with fishermen. Field visits were held during which working meetings were held with the members of the FHMSR and ECOWB teams. They also held three participatory workshops with communities in San Bruno and H. Mulegé. One of them was related to the Octopus fishing that takes place in San Bruno and the other two were to present to the fishermen the progress of the Sustainable Fishing Project and points 1.1, 1.3 and 1.5 relating to Social Responsibility in accordance with the statutes of Fishery Progress.

As a result of the meetings, some fishermen in San Bruno were made aware of the need to implement management measures to catch octopus. Likewise, didactic material was created for the workshops and the first ones on Social Responsibility were presented to fishermen of H. Mulegé and San Bruno, in these events were present 10 people related to fishing and linked to the fishing improvement project.

It is hoped to continue the work of the Awareness and adoption of social responsibility.
