English Education for Rural Children in China

As was the case in 2020 and 2021, our flexibility and resilience were put to the test during the Spring semester 2022. We are very proud to say that our team more than rose to the challenge. Despite facing uncertainties and difficulties, including lockdowns and school closure in many parts of China due to surging COVID-19 cases, we have carried on with our efforts to provide educational services to our beneficiaries by improving our online processes, transferring offline programs to online mode, and recruiting volunteers from all around the world.

In the first six months of 2022, in spite of many schools closing in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, our School Videolink Program continued in 14 rural schools, reaching 1,148 students located in Fujian, Henan, Yunnan and Jiangxi provinces. At the same time, our Home Classroom Program – which consist of volunteers teaching online to 5-8 students located in their own homes – reached 738 students across China. In total, more than 225 volunteers and trainers joined forces to deliver an impressive total of 1,612 online lessons to 1,886 disadvantaged students during these difficult and exceptional times.

For the upcoming summer months, we will continue to provide engaging English lessons to more than 800 disadvantaged students in rural China through the internet.
